FPSP Repositioned Programme: Recovery and catch-up Support
Learner Resource Packs
The project developed and distributed learner activity booklets covering mathematics and English curriculum-based activities across grades 1 to 7, targeting critical foundational concepts. These resources aimed to support learning lines and key conceptual areas essential for progression. While not replacing mainstream teaching, they were designed as catch-up and recovery tools, distributed to 5 primary schools totaling 14,256 booklets.
Teacher Support:
Teachers received online short courses and onsite support visits to enhance their capacity in implementing the learner activities and related assessments. The course structure included accessible e-learning resources with voice notes, infographics, and videos, aiding in linking concepts for catch-up and recovery. Assessment tasks and support sessions were integral parts of the course, supplemented by face-to-face orientation and data subsidies.
Assessment Tools
The learner booklets included formative assessment tasks, with a hybrid paper-based and digital marking solution utilizing ZipGrade for quick feedback. Training on this tool was part of the online course, ensuring efficient assessment processing and monitoring of learner skills attainment.
Online Stakeholder Meetings
Stakeholder engagement occurred at district, school management team, and teacher levels, providing brief program overviews and addressing support needs.
Project M&E Approach
Monitoring and evaluation processes focused on teacher and learner components, tracking enrolment, completion rates, distribution, implementation of support sessions, and assessment task analysis. Program indicators included enrolment numbers, completion rates, knowledge change among teachers, learner workbook usage, pass rates, curriculum coverage, and numeracy competences mastery.
These components collectively aimed to address learning gaps, enhance teaching quality, and support catch-up efforts post-COVID-19 disruptions, ensuring a structured approach to recovery and ongoing educational improvement.
